Carson Wentz to sign one-year deal with Kansas City Chief

Patrick Mahomes is helping the Chiefs prepare for another Super Bowl.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the great quarterback is restructuring his contract to clear $21.6 million in salary space before 2024.

Spotrac reports that Mahomes began this summer with a $58.6 million cap charge for 2024 after signing a 10-year, $503 million contract in 2020.

Early in the 2023 season, Mahomes modified his deal in September. ESPN's Adam Schefter said that the arrangement would pay him $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026.

If at all, Mahomes' latest restructure will affect the previous deal.

The two-time MVP agreed to another restructure as the Chiefs try to become the first NFL club to win three straight Super Bowls after winning the Lombardi Trophy in each of the last two seasons.

Linebacker Willie Gay, offensive lineman Nick Allegretti, and punter Tommy Townsend have left Kansas City this offseason. They also franchised cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, who might be dealt if no deal is made.

Chris Jones, Deon Bush, and Drue Tranquill were re-signed by the Chiefs. On Tuesday, tight end Irv Smith Jr. was the team's only free agent.
