Hollywood was planning to cast Jennifer Garner—who quietly devastated audiences in her breakout role on The Americans and then delivered a barn-burning performance

on Ozark—as the titular Material Girl in a (now-shelved) Madonna biopic produced by Universal. In what seems to be a period piece set in the early 1960s, she joins an ensemble of similarly stellar up-and-comers,

including the previously revealed quintet of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm.

Several critics and comic book enthusiasts are worried about the film's plot because she would play the role as Shalla-Bal.

Debuting in 1968 in Marvel's Silver Surfer comics, Shalla-Bal was Norrin Radd's romantic interest and the Empress of the utopian planet Zenn-La.

Intruding on their existence, Galactus—a gigantic celestial being that subsists by devouring whole planets—arrived. For the sake of Shalla-Bal and Zenn-La's inhabitants, Norrin proposes to assume the identity of the chrome-clad Silver Surfer

Also known as the Herald of Galactus. He will then use a surfbort-like gadget to travel around space at the speed of light, sort of like a cosmic Yelp reviewer, and decide which worlds are worth consuming.
