New contract for Nick Chubb keeps him in Cleveland for 2024.

The Cleveland Browns are negotiating a new contract with Nick Chubb due to his uncertain future.

On Thursday, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero claimed that Chubb and the Browns have agreed to a modified deal to lower his base salary of $11.75 million with incentives to earn it back.

The 2023 season ended abruptly after Chubb suffered a serious knee injury in Week 2. His NFL future was uncertain.

At 28 years old and with a lengthy injury history, many wonder if Chubb will be able to return with the same abilities that propelled him to the top of the ball carrier rankings.

In six seasons, Chubb has run for 6,511 yards and 48 touchdowns, appearing in 12 or more games save his final.

Without Chubb, Cleveland relied on second-year back Jerome Ford, veteran Kareem Hunt, and speed back Pierre Strong in 2023, falling out of the NFL's top 10 for rushing yards for the first time since 2019.

The Browns have provided few updates on Chubb's recovery from his torn anterior cruciate ligament, which required two surgeries.

The injury and Chubb's high ceiling, $15.825 million in 2024, have raised questions about whether Cleveland will release the local hero to save money on a risky investment.
