New York Giants make move for JJ McCarthy after drawing up special Easter plan

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a month away, JJ McCarthy will work out with several Giants coaches on Easter Sunday..

McCarthy won the National Championship with Michigan in January and has been praised by former coach Jim Harbaugh, who now coaches the Chargers.

Harbaugh may be using this as a smokescreen because the Chargers have the No. 5 pick and are looking for top non-quarterback possibilities since they already have Justin Herbert.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams is anticipated to go first overall to join the Chicago Bears, but McCarthy has above LSU's Jayden Daniels and North Carolina's Drake Maye in most mock drafts.

The Giants are still evaluating McCarthy during Easter, according to The New York Daily News.

The Giants gave starting quarterback Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million agreement last offseason, but an injury-filled 2023 season has raised worries. The Giants signed Drew Lock as Jones' backup, but if coaches are impressed, they may draft McCarthy.

McCarthy may not slip to No. 6 because the Washington Commanders (No. 2) and New England Patriots (No. 3) are hunting for quarterbacks. Maye and Daniels before McCarthy may not prevent the Giants from selecting four and five.

The Giants chose Jones' new contract over running back Saquon Barkley in early 2023, but he's still rehabbing from a ruptured ACL. They signed Jones and franchise-tagged Barkley, who left for archrivals the Philadelphia Eagles.
