The Simpson family has confirmed that O.J. died of cancer at the age of 76.

The family of former NFL player and broadcaster O.J. Simpson revealed Thursday on X that he has died of cancer.

His athletic accomplishments and stardom were overshadowed by his 1995 trial in the gruesome murders of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. His age was 76.

"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer," read a post from the "Simpson Family" on Simpson's verified X account that appeared on Thursday morning.

His children and grandkids were encircling him. His loved ones are requesting your understanding and privacy as they go through this difficult period.

The news of Simpson's prostate cancer diagnosis was announced approximately two months ago, according to a statement released by Jim Porter,

president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Chemotherapy was administered to the Hall of Fame athlete.

Despite his many athletic accomplishments, including a 1968 Heisman Trophy as a running back at USC and stints in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers,

Simpson turned into one of the most divisive figures of the twentieth century following his acquittal on murder charges.
