Trump Prosecutor Urges the Supreme Court to Allow Quick January 6 Trial  

Special Counsel Jack Smith has requested the US Supreme Court to allow Donald Trump to face a criminal trial for attempting to reverse his 2020  

In a court filing on Monday, Smith said the justices should reject Trump's request for immunity from prosecution for conduct that included a furious speech  

Supporters soon before many of them stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.  

"A bedrock principle of our constitutional order is that no person is above the law — including the president," Smith   

"Nothing in constitutional text, history, precedent, or policy considerations supports the absolute immunity" that President Trump is demanding.  

Smith needs a clear-cut victory, preferably one that is rapid, to have any chance of putting Trump on trial before voters go to the polls on November 5.   

The top court will hear arguments on April 25 and is expected to rule before its term ends at the end of June.  

The prosecution is one of four criminal proceedings against Trump. The trial in a New York state court is scheduled to begin next Monday on claims
