'Yellowstone' star Kevin Costner finally answers whether he'll be on the hit show's final season.

As Kevin Costner transitions from frontman of "Yellowstone" to producer and actor of the future project "Horizon: An American Saga," an essential question remains: Have we seen the last of his character, John Dutton?

"I'd like to be able to do it, but we haven't been able to — I'm not sure how it's being worked out," Costner said of returning to the program for its final season in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

"I've enjoyed making that series. I created five seasons of it.

I imagined I'd make seven [seasons], but we're currently at five. So, I hope it works out, but they have a lot of different programs going on."

A "Yellowstone" spinoff starring Matthew McConaughey has already been greenlit by Paramount Network.

According to numerous cast members, production for the final season of "Yellowstone" is not yet underway.

"Perhaps this will loop back to me. "If it does, and I'm really comfortable with it, I'd love to do it," Costner told ET.

Part one of the fifth and final season of the series sees Costner's character at odds with his son Jamie (Wes Bentley), who wants to remove his father from the governorship.
